St. Christopher, the first Caribbean island to be permanently settled by both the English and the French (who shared the island between 1627 and 1713 ), was a model and a springboard for English and French colonialism in the Caribbean and elsewhere.

Brimstone Hill Fortress ranked by USA Today

In an article published late last week USA Today ranked the Brimstone Hill Fortress in the Top Ten out of 500 must see hidden gems on the planet.  Brimstone Hill is the only attraction in the Caribbean apart from the Venezuelan island of Margarita to make this Top Ten list.  The only other fort to make the Top Ten is Galle Fort in Sri Lanka.

The Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park and the offices of the Brimstone Hill Society at Matheson House, Taylor's Range, will be closed at midday (12:00 pm) on Monday 10th October 2011, to allow staff of the Society to attend a funeral. Defence Force Band Sunset Recital 2011 and firing of brick oven at Artillery Officers Quarters

After the exertions and excitement of the Brimstone Hill Fit and Fearless Run on Saturday 24th September, music lovers were treated to a much more relaxing outing the following Sunday 25th September. Beginning at 4pm on a beautiful Sunday evening the band led my Captain Nigel Williams treated and thrilled the crowd with a wide selection of instrumental numbers.
